Asteroid
Asteroid is the most challenging piece I have made to date. I was invited to make a piece for a gallery show simply titled “Indigo” at the RECSPEC Gallery. Fortunately my roommate works with traditional indigo dyeing so I was able to use the natural Indigo dye baths in our backyard. The space/deep-sea diving helmet started to take shape as I considered the depth and richness of the Indigo blue; one of atmosphere and water. WIth the idea taking shape the next hurdle was to create a 3-dimensional object that had the look of a helmet with a rounded globe, a viewing window, a flared neck, and could also be easily worn without a lot of fuss. Working from the base upwards over the course of a week I experimented and problem solved my way to completion of the wearable sculpture I call “Asteroid”.
Asteroid is the only one of it’s kind in this big blue world. Consider purchasing for an art collection, a unique costume piece, or a personal think-outside-the-box inspiration helmet.
100% cotton rope hand-dyed with natural Indian Indigo.
Holds its shape by tension (no glue used in the construction).
If worn, head slips easily through opening in the back.
If interested in purchasing, a monthly payment plan can be negotiated.
