transformation in rope

Small Batch Hand Dyeing

Before a necklace is constructed each length of rope must first be measured, cut, and dyed based on the final design. This can take up to four, sometimes five, separate dye baths to achieve the desired color placement and ombre.

Unique Design

These designs have developed over many years of experimentation, trial and error, and play. I have my influences but mostly I let the fit and feel of a new design determine how to edit. You will discover both everyday necklaces as well as full torso sculptural works in the Neon Zinn universe, each lovingly made to order.

Slow Fashion

I understand the everyday need for affordable goods and services. I also feel passionate about the counter balance to a landscape of cheap and mass produced. Neon Zinn celebrates the exquisite potential found in everyday materials, emphasizes quality over quantity, and seeks out human connection through soulfully made wearable items.

To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places — and there are so many — where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction. And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.
